10 Tips for the Perfect Wedding Speech
Jane D Clark

Having to come up with the perfect wedding speech for a wedding can be one of the most nerve racking things in life. There are many things you want to say, but how to deliver them and make it memorable and humorous can be a tough task.

* The opening line needs to be an attention grabber. Think of a funny quote, a line from a movie, or just something relevant to the day. Also, If many people are not going to know who you are, then announce your relationship to the bride and groom.

* Start off with a funny anecdote about the bride and groom, this will relax you and engage the attention of the guests. Once you get your first laughs, your nerves will disappear.

* The purpose of your wedding speech is to make the bride and groom feel special. To make it easier you can divide it up into 3 sections, with the first and last section being humorous.

* Don't make it too long, about 5 minutes is long enough, people will start to get restless after that.

* Don't isolate any guests. If you have jokes that only a handful of the guests will get then don't mention it. Stick to light hearted jokes, don't say anything that could offend or insult anyone.

* Remember to thank all the appropriate people at the end of the speech

* Close with a heart felt comment.

Delivering the speech

* The most important thing to remember is to practice plenty of times so you feel comfortable with it. Write down pointers on cards. Don't write out the whole thing and read it out like a book as you will easily lose your place and it won't flow as well.

* Be sure to speak slowly and clearly so that everyone can hear you and understand you. Make sure you make plenty of eye contact and look around the room not just at one person.

* Even though you may feel very nervous try pretend that you are confident, take a deep breath, compose yourself and stand confidently.

At the end of the day, relax, enjoy it, it will be over before you know it!
